About
Iris is a companion app designed to help women cope with the emotional rollercoaster following a miscarriage, a common but often unspoken event that over a million women in the U.S. encounter annually. The app provides different options and helps women find the best alternative and suitable emotional support throughout this journey.
For this project, I worked alongside Shun Cheng, Yukti Arora, and Rui Yang. My contributions included conducting user interviews, leading the research, UX, and UI for two types of support, branding the app, and crafting the storytelling for the pitch deck.
No more stigmas for women
Women's health has been stigmatized for many years, leading to a range of healthcare challenges throughout their lives, including breast cancer, cervical cancer, menopause, menstrual pain and pregnancy.
According to the World Health Organization, losing a baby in pregnancy through miscarriage is still a taboo subject worldwide, linked to stigma and shame.
Finding support
After conducting remote interviews with screen-share walkthroughs of the prototype, we gained insights and identified pain points that highlighted the need to find ways to provide emotional support.
User persona based on the quotes we gathered during our interviews.
Our research include two stages:
First stage: 6 women, from 3 different countries (USA, Canada and Norway), from 32 to 40 years old.
User testing prototype: 4 women, from USA only, from 32 to 38 years old.
“
“I felt a lot of guilt and self blame. It was really hard. I went to a therapist”
By destigmatizing the experience of miscarriage and offering women a supportive community and resources, we can help break down the isolation and grief that many women feel after experiencing pregnancy loss.
An app designed for women who have experienced miscarriage that aims to provide a safe space for them to share their emotions and stories, offer support to one another, and access resources such as therapy sessions and information on counseling.
